Is there anything even remotely as fast as terminal services for linux ?

X is a whole different model from windows. instead of remotely displaying
a whole screen, I like to ssh into the remote machine and forward my X
connection over ssh. Then I can run X clients (apps) on the remote machine
and display them locally. If you stay away from pixmap-based GTK+ themes,
it's pretty quick even over my 2mb/s wireless connection on my laptop.

gvim, for example, is blazing fast displayed remotely. most of the time
I can't tell a performance difference, remote vs. local.

think about it, why would you want the whole desktop drawn over the
network? you probably only want to run a couple X clients remotely.
