Subject: accessing MCCD mail systems with Linux

By configuring Netscape 4 in Caldera Open Linux 1.3 to
access a pcmail e-mail account, using the same parameters as
in my Win98 setup, I can connect and reach the point at
which the pcmail server asks for the e-mail password, but
"Login failed" appears after the password is entered.

Since the same thing happens with Netscape 6 in Slackware
8.1, this is probably not a bug in Caldera.

Can someone familiar with one of the MCCD mail systems
(e.g., pcmail, gccmail, etc.) tell me whether there is a way
to fix this?

A clue that might help narrow down the problem is the
following:

1) the alternate, web-page method of accessing pcmail via

    http://www.pc.maricopa.edu/information/index.html

then choosing the WebMail option, and entering Username and
Password when prompted, also refuses to permit access, but

2) from the web page

    http://email2.dist.maricopa.edu:8080/mail/main?domain=
                                     pcmail.maricopa.edu&lan

(which requires inserting a "pc" to the left of the domain
name "mail.maricopa.edu" that appears in the Username box),
I can log in with no problem.
