Red Hat Desktop Integration

Perhaps I am a bit too unknowledgable about all of this but it would
seem that each distro is essentially making these types of decisions all
of the time and that is exactly why one would choose one distro over
another.

I have seen RedHat take flak for using a customized version of gcc-2.96,
customized kernels, etc. Note that the next version of RedHat will use
the 3.1 (or some variation) of gcc.

There are those who might call them MS-Linux and the great thing about
linux is that you can always choose another distro which will be similar
but different and they may very well end up doing things the way you
want them to be done.

I happen to use RH 7.3 and love evolution (GNOME) and use the KDE
desktop and wouldn't necessarily be happy if I had to choose one or the
other. Granted I have to waste the resources necessary to keep both
GNOME & KDE happy. I see people evangelizing other desktop systems on
RedHat's mail lists and they probably have a point for using the other
systems as well, I'm just not knowledgable enough. I don't want to learn
the exact nuances of each desktop system, I just want to use a computer
so I would suppose that RedHat is probably doing what I want them to do.

and I believe that RedHat has lost a valuable body with Bero leaving.
