Is there any reason that you are not able to tunnel the mail itself
across SSH (i.e. port forwarding) so that your choice of e-mail client
is not limited?
I don't know what your setup is that requires you read the mail
remotely, but my guess is that you are using an offline protocol (i.e.
POP) rather than an online protocol (i.e. IMAP). If this is the case,
then your best bet would be to set up a mail server, but this might
require more effort than you are willing to devote.
It might also be the case that you simply don't want to have multiple
clients each with their own configuration. This is understandable, but
it is also not a problem if you use the same client (i.e. copy the
config files over). Again, though, this may not be an option if you
don't use Linux at work.
Oh, well. Just thought I would throw out a few suggestions in case it
might help.
