LDAP and Linux

thanks for the response. Yes, I am using OpenLDAP with Redhat 7.2. I am 
trying to build a global address book.
I am using this site as a starting point.

I'm kind of new at this but from what I understand, LDAP is a directory 
service like NDS and AD. I figure
its a good idea then to have some knowledge as to how it works.
