Redhat 8, GCC 3+ and PHP 4.2.3

OK... I have spent several days tryinng to compile PHP 4.2.3, latest 1.+
Apache, and absolutely NO LUCK! Has anyone tried compliling from source
under Redhat 8 and been successful? All of the lists, AZPHPUG,
Apachetoolbox, etc, all are having issues but does not seem to be resolved
by anyone. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
