The Linux Documentation Project (www.tldp.com) would be a good place to start 
looking.  There is a Hardware HOWTO there.  The ZD Net Linux Hardware 
Database does NOT list any "Best Buy" modems but if you can find out the real 
manufacturer, you might find it listed there.
