Cable Modem Suprise..

Just for the heck of it, while people were talking about the Cox
transition on the list, I decided to check and see if I still was unable
to get the service. And after poping in my address, apparently I qualify
for the full service. Now.

This comes as a suprise, as I've been told I can't get a cablemodem, and
that I'll never be able to get DSL. Even though all the retired
professors on my block *can*.

Part of me (and my wife, for that matter) is screaming to order the
service immediately. I've got a 'leased' ISDN connection through either
Qwest or MSN, I'm not exactly sure anymore. Either way, it's costing me a
fortune for a measily 128k pipe, and I'm not going to be able to afford it
a hell of a lot longer.

On the other hand, the website looks like it was thrown together at the
last minute by people half asleep, what with all the Oracle and ASP
errors. And it isn't very Konqi friendly as it is. I've also been
hearing a lot of stuff on the list, not necesarilly bad, but chaotic.

So, I'll ask directly: Given that they aren't lying to me (again) and I
can order the service, should I go for it? And, if so, are they willing
to understand that I'm a *nix person and I really don't want the installer
touching my junk, or should I have a windows machine ready for them when
they get here? What would the proper disposal for such an installation
be? :)

-Sam, with semi-bated breath.
must...sleep...now... Good.
