Nah, I think Mr. High IQ has it right.  He needs experience so he's
willing to bite the bullet and take a "low" paying job to get the
experience that will earn him more money later.  What's the alternative?
Sit around at home tinkering with your 3-node Linux/Win98 network until
someone magically shows up on your doorstep with a big fat check?  Not
likely to happen.  Actually, another alternative is to lie about your
experience if you really know your stuff, but that usually comes around to
bite you in the ass.
