On the contrary, I generally look for items with the return sticker.  Fry's 
return policy (like most others) is only 30 days.  However, the return 
sticker states (first thing) that "Fry's Electronics will fully honor all 
manufacturer's warrantees" . . . a fact which I have taken advantage of a few 
times.  Generally, the conversation goes like:

"I'm sorry, but you bought this 15 months ago"

"But the manufacturer's warrantee is for two years, and you claim to honor 
it."

"I'm not sure why it says that."

"Then you should have no problem following it."

"Oh, alright.  PIC! (Person In Charge)"

Sure, it is a little bit of trouble.  However, I don't like the idea of having 
to mail the item around (at my expense) to get it fixed.

As you stated, though, "you have to be very educated on how to shop at 
Fry's". ;-)
