The latest release (last week?) of VMWare GSX server is *much* happier
on a 2-cpu box with 1GB RAM, I haven't tried it again under 2.4.x yet. 
The "Bigmem" problems seem to be resolved. They also just released a
beta of VMWare workstation 3.0 - I haven't downloaded it though (maybe
tonight).
