The following is being relayed by request of Kathy Kyle, SCENE Executive
Administrator.


RFP:  CONSULTANT TO DEVELOP INQUIRY-BASED SCIENCE ACTIVITIES

The Southwest Center for Education and the Natural Environment (SCENE), a
non-profit educational organization affiliated with the Arizona State
University Center for Environmental Studies, seeks a consultant to create
inquiry-based science activities for pre-K through 12th grade students.
SCENE helps schools in the Phoenix metropolitan area to create native
habitat areas on school grounds and use them as outdoor learning
laboratories.  The consultant will work in the context of this program,
creating activities that investigate aspects of schoolyard ecology.  The
goal is to help teachers integrate the process of planning and designing the
habitat, as well as the completed habitat, into mandated curricula.
Activities to be developed will be hands-on, inquiry-based, and will fulfill
Arizona State standards in science and mathematics.  Activities will be
disseminated principally via the Internet, and secondarily through teacher
training workshops.

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree in the natural sciences, teaching
experience, superb writing skills, familiarity with the Internet.
Preferred:  knowledge of Sonoran Desert ecology, K-12 classroom teaching
experience, familiarity with Arizona State educational standards. 

Compensation: $10,000 for 10-15 hours per week over a nine-month period.
