try libcrypt or something like that. I had this problem once while trying to
compile Apache. Also, if you do a www.google.com/linux search using crypto.h
or equivalent you will find references to the rpm file(s) it is contained
in.

don't think the distro is that important but specifically this is RH 6.1
that I am asking about.

in trying to install openssl-0.9.5, I get a message that it can't find
"stdio.h", "crypto.h" and other basic files to get thru the make and I am
puzzled because I have installed this a number of times on similar systems.
I downloaded and installed a number of things including an updated egc++,
libc, zlib, kernel headers, kernel source but still get the message. Does
anyone have a clue which package/source is missing?
