Meetings at UAT?

As I mentioned at the Devel meeting last Thursday, I have looked into what =
the=20
rules are to hosting the Devel meetings at UAT. For those that may not hav=
e=20
paid attention, this is the Unversity of Advancing Technology located on=20
Baseline just east of 48th Street. That puts in just over the border in=20
Tempe.

I'd like to open a discussion about doing just that.

Charles Braffelt is the IT and contact person for us there at the campus. =
He=20
has provided some answers to my questions about us using the facility.

UAT
=2D-----
=2D Food and Drink: Food can be consumed in the "Cuban Pete's area or the
small commons." This is the snack shop on the campus. I am not sure if=20
meetings can be held in these same areas. If we have food, we may need to=
=20
eat and then have the presentation. =A0Drinks can be brought into the=20
classrooms as long as there are no "open" tops.

=2D Room Equipment: The room we met in and most of the other rooms have a=
=20
projector and an instructor's computer. With prior arrangment we can use=20
these for our presentations.

=2D Internet Access: We can get a wired internet connection with prior setu=
p of=20
a network account. The wireless access is open and is on it's own subnet=20
directly to the internet. So we could probably bring our own access point =
to=20
connect to their wireless and then run our own switch/hub and cables around=
=20
for those with wired connections.

=2D UAT Computer Use: Some of the classrooms are outfitted with computers =
for=20
all the students. We would need to make prior arrangements with full=20
description of our goals before we could use the computers. However, using=
 a=20
classroom with computers is possible, depending on what we want to do.

=2D PLUG Computers: We are welcome to bring our own computers to events. =
=20
Wireless internet access is always available but wired access on their=20
network needs prior arrangement.

=2D Room Description: Those at the last meeting were aware of the carpeted=
=20
floor and cloth covered chairs. I think any room we meet in at UAT would b=
e=20
similarly furnished. Larger meetings could be done in the autotorium with=
=20
tiered seating.

As you all know, Adtron is moving from it's current location where we have=
=20
been holding the Devel Meetings. We are welcome to continue meeting at=20
Adtron in the new location. The new location is just north west of 48th=20
Street and Broadway. That is about 2 miles from UAT so both locations are =
in=20
the same area and near to freeway access. =20

Adtron
=2D------
=2D Food and Drink: I have not seen the room we will meet in. However, it=
 will=20
be the break room at the facility. It will have a sink, filtered water and=
=20
will allow food and non-alcoholic drinks. No problem with pizza in the=20
meeting room.

=2D Room Equipment: The room will have a wired network connection and=20
sufficient power outlets to spread around. No permanent projector but Adtr=
on=20
does have one on site that we are welcome to use for our presentations. I=
=20
can provide a computer with prior arrangement.

=2D Internet Access: I have been told that internet access for the group w=
ill=20
be possible "in a few months" after the move. This is something I am worki=
ng=20
to get and is just a matter of the right people getting around to setting i=
t=20
up. I don't think wireless access will ever be provided but once we have=20
wired access, we could bring in our own AP.

=2D Adtron Computer Use: Adtron does not have a bunch of computers the way=
 UAT=20
does. A box or two could be provided for a particular meeting.

=2D PLUG Computers: People are welcome to bring their own but connections =
and=20
space for desktop boxes is questionalbe at the moment.

=2D Room Description: The room will be tile floor and the chairs of the mo=
lded=20
plastic or folding variety like we have had at Adtron before. Tables will =
be=20
the same plus a few round ones.

I have no real bias to meeting at Adtron even though I work there and have=
=20
been host for some time. I can still act as host if we meet at UAT.

One of the original goals when we began the Devel meetings was to have the=
=20
meeting location in central Phoenix if possible. Adtron is not exactly=20
central and the new loaction is a bit further from the center. UAT does mo=
ve=20
us even further from center and, in fact, just over the border into Tempe. =
=20
If anyone knows a more central location, that would be good to suggest.

So, on Thursday, July 1, will we meet at Adtron or UAT? What say you?
