TrueNAS vs Samba

Thank you everyone who responded.

Armed with all this feedback I think I really only need Samba. Simple 
for file sharing and as a backup.

I have an 8G USB backup drive that I bought on sale and have not used.  
I am thinking I can use it.  I'm thinking it will be slow however I 
really do not need much.
