How to upgrade my Kubuntu?

Hi,

I pulled out an old laptop and it already has Kubuntu on it.  I want to 
do a package update and during my research it appears I need to do an 
apt update on the command line.  Is there not a desktop utility to do 
this?  Not afraid of the command line just want to learn how to run a 
desktop system.
