I have looked in the garage. I thought I knew exactly where I had put the
fax modems. It turns out I do not. That's what I get for cleaning things
up :).
I did run into a fax project for Nextcloud.

I haven't looked at it, so absolutely no idea if it'll work for what you
need, but if it does, then you're not dependent on hardware old enough to
drive.
