Smart Thermostat

I am trying to start a smart linux climate control stack project using
Raspberry Pi

Goal: To develop a general, reliable FOSS solution for smart thermostats
(thereby reducing production costs of smart thermostats and energy usage).

I am writing to resquest that you inform your members about my efforts,
such as in your newsletter. I this would require advertising fees please
let me know.

Target users:

* Hackers, contributors.
* Makers who build from scratch
* Plans builders
* Kit suppliers and kit builders
* Commercial smart thermostat manufacturers.

I don't have the electrical engineering, software, or HVAC experience or
knowledge to act as a primary contributor to this project. I can provide
administrative and organizer support, hustle for donors and volunteers, and
I can try my hand at documentation. I think that the project would need:

* A Linux software contributor, probably competent in Java, JavaScript, and
maybe Python. A lot of R-Pi stuff is done in Python for some reason.
* An electrical engineer, or talented technician, to physically design and
build the Raspberry Pi based WiFi enabled thermostat.
* An HVAC professional, or talented student, to advise and to be a field
technician.
* Maybe a plumber if we decide to mess with furnace control
* A project manager
* An electric utility or HVAC manufacturer who will provide support in kind
by providing facilities to test the system.

I envision a going-concern project to iteratively develop Linux based smart
thermostat software, with its reference hardware based on Raspberry Pi.

If I can find a couple of people interested in different categories, I
think it would be enough to justify a meeting.

Prospective volunteers and other intersted parties are asked to reply on:
