Except HP printers are far and away the best supported printers in
linux. I personally don't like spending days trying to make a printer
work with some 10 year old rpm or deb file because the company doesn't
take me seriously as a customer.

I don't remember the last time I plugged an HP printer into any of my
fedora systems and it didn't work within a minute of web-cups
configuration, or an Ubuntu system that didn't auto configure it to work
for me.

I spend many years in desktop support and in a computer repair shop and
I learned very early on, only use HP ink. I don't like dealing with bad
cartridges because the refill company is crappy, or cartridges that
suddenly leak because they are cheap and the insides of the printer are
full of pools of ink because the cartridge decided to dump its contents.
I've never had a problem with HP printers or inks and I'm happy to spend
a few more dollars per cartridge to not have to deal with those
problems... and before you think I must not print very often I
home-school 5 children and we print and copy tons of stuff every day.
EVERY day.

I recently decided to get into the laser arena and replaced my trust old
officejet with a Brother laser printer. My wife won't let me make any
future printer decisions. She hates it. My kids hate it. But hey, the
toner is cheap and I can get it from all kinds of cheap replacement
companies.

I'll stick with HP printers.
