Windows 7 dual boot with Linux

Randy, thanks, that order of things is one of the understandings I needed.
On the boot sector repair thing, I already have a nw drive and can't help
but to believe that if the boot sector died once, why won't it be at risk
of dying again?
Concerning getting the data off the old drive, I have a USB hard drive
enclosurs and plan to back it up to a 2 TB back up drive.
