Linux/Android based alternative to RF Guns?

Greets to all,

We use PSION Teklogix RF Guns for warehouse picking and while they work
great, they cost an arm and a leg. For what they do, it's crazy what they
cost...

So i'm looking for something in an embedded device or a PDA/Tablet with
powerful IR. They would need to either have a keyboard or touch screen or
text input as well. Wifi a requirement as well.

Has anyone see such a beast?
