OT: Windows Virtual Machine Software

I have a Windows 8 laptop on order.

I would like to run Ubuntu as a guest on a virtual machine.  What are some good candidates?  It doesn't have to be free, but VMware for Workstations would be overkill at this point.  Is Oracle still developing Virtual Box?
