I find web-based virus scanners untrustworthy and a waste of time.
I have a couple of live cd based virus scanners. the live cd's are linux based (aver and bitdefender).
give me a shout if you need some help.

When I run a scan from a website it says there are things on the system and then I need to purchase their product to clean it. I don't know if I should believe them either. Who should I believe?

If I could bring my desktop computer I would but I don't think they would consider it a carry-on if I did. I hate to be a beggar but does anyone have a spare one I could have? Or perhaps someone could clean it for me. I have avast! installed on it (and I installed after a fresh system install) but that hasn't seem to help at all.
