No subject

When I turn my computer on it goes through the boot sequence ad then the
screen goes blank. Not blank limke there is no power to it but kinda a bark
purple. I've tried reinstalling the system (to no avail) so the only thing
I can think of is that the refurbished HD is toast. But when I load the
live CD I can look at the contents of the hard drive. Does anyone know what
this sounds like?
