as for the political (and human) situation we find ourselves in, this 
quote seems most
appropriate:

the situation we find ourselves in was long out of our hands before we 
even became aware of the
problem, let alone the nature of the problem. Even now, there are those 
who either cannot
believe there is a problem, or they lie to themselves (and others) 
stating no problem exists. for them I
feel nothing but pity. Unfortunately, they tend to have louder voices 
and also outnumber us
"smart people" 10:1 (its called the tyranny of the stupid).

anyway, I've said my say on it and will now return to my regularly 
scheduled flame throwing viewing
(already in progress).
