It sounds like you have the right idea already.  Drupal, joomla or 
wordpress are probably soliutions.  My personal preference is for 
Joomla, but you should probably play with all 3 and see what makes the 
most sense for your situation.

If/when you do try joomla, make sure to try out the JCE WYSIWYG editor. 
  It's a lot more feature rich than the built in editor, but then again, 
only having the basic features can be a feature in and of itself.  When 
it comes to content managnment systems, the less you try and customize 
your document the better.... just let the theme's style sheet do the 
heavy lifting of how your text looks.  Otherwise you can run into 
problems when you want to change your theme in the future, and all your 
text has been hard coded to look good with a different color scheme.
