Why does my system create hundreds of .mapped files?

Joe replied: /etc/issue contains the following:
PCLinuxOS release 2010 (PCLinuxOS) for i586
Kernel 2.6.32.12-pclos1.bfs on an i686 / \l

Because ps.junk is such a large file, rather than including it in this
email message, I've uploaded it at the following URL:

There seem to be a lot of processes in 'ps' results now that were not in
my previous Linux installation. Is this bloatware?
