Ditto, I use them on multiple machines and the only times I have seen such
slowness is when:
- I am doing big downloads on the same machine or LAN
- tools like traceroute show me there is slowness in the path to the domain
I am viewing.
Otherwise both seem speedy and seldom, if ever, crash.
OTOH, I just replaced my gaming machine and find that an internet connection
problem I had with World of Warcraft has disappeared. Particularly
interesting since WOW was moved to the new machine by simply transferring
the files to the new machine (meaning that the application software did not
change). The old machine was a dual boot XP and Ubuntu 9.10 (this machine
in fact). Ubuntu has always been faster downloading from the internet than
XP. Somehow, over time, XP's internet access seemed to get worse (and yes,
it was cleaned, defragged, and registry cleaned).
So before you condemn the browsers, try them in different environments to
check if the environment isn't the root cause.

The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions,
that I wish it always to be kept alive.
