Many items can cause a serious load spike, from a firmware issue, to many of
the nic drivers, scsi drivers (as opposed to hda) so a full and complete
inventory of all pieces of the puzzle are required.

What is machine 1:  (include boot dmesg and lsof)


What is machine 2: (include boot dmesg and lsof)


What version of VirtualBox are you using?

Assuming this is XP/Service pack 2, fully patched?
