Actually, I thought I would ask why you want an external one to connect to a
serial port rather than a simple PCI internal modem which is still commonly
available.  Th only thing I could think of was that your server is not a PC
or so you could disconnect it when not traveling but you could do the same
with the PCI just by disconnecting the phone line.
