I have begun to learn and use git somewhat extensively over the past
year or so and am really liking it. To me it seems just so much more
powerful than svn or even cvs for that matter. Of course, with that
power, comes complexity and a steeper learning curve. I have a few
notes that other git users and project developers shared with me which
helps me greatly. You can read over the man pages but as man pages
go, that just glazes over the eyes even more sometimes.
I'm definitely not a git exper here but am a fan of git for sure. It
is so much easier to track one's changes and like Eric wrote,
committing changes is more easily done and easier to track.
