I've had the same experience as the others, my android phone have been
plug and play.
Additionally I downloaded an ssh server for my phone called quicksshd.
I'm sure there are others, but this one cost $99 cents and was well
worth the price. I can now drag and drop files off of my phone via
wifi, so I don't have to bother plugging the phone into my computer. It
also includes a widget that I leave on one of my desktops that turns the
whole thing on and off with a single press of a button.
