http://www.tesuji.org/thinkpad_w700.html was the only hit on
tuxmobil.org for that laptop.  Looks like most stuff works.

You'll have to use the evil binary-only nVidia modules.  I don't know
how easy that'll be with Ubuntu.  It was pretty easy to get TwinView
working on my desktop with Gentoo and the evil binary-only modules,
but dual-head is a bit different.  I got that working on Steve's
computer last year, but it required some manual tweaking of xorg.conf
for everything to work right.  The README that nVidia supplies with
the evil binary-only module is pretty comprehensive and can solve a
lot of config problems fairly easily.

First thing I'd try is to install a vanilla kernel, use that instead
of the Ubuntu kernel, and use a more recent version of the evil
modules.
