agreed that Acer Aspire One with the 89% scale keyboard is mostly usable
(I have a problem with right hand reaches to I O keys also hitting 8 & 9
keys respectively...but I hope that eventually this will stop.

The latest versions have a 10.1 screen and for a while, you could pick
up the 8.9 inch screen versions with 1 Gb RAM and a 160 Gb HD for $300

As for Asus use of Xandros and Acer's use of Linpus, those are
simplified installations but a relatively knowledgeable Linux user will
want his favorite distro installed instead...that's hardly surprising. I
didn't find Asus's OS to be all that objectionable but the keyboard
isn't suitable for touch typing.
