my router hates me

If you are connected to the router and grabbing public addresses, and 
because most likely you don't get more than one from your provider, the 
first device seen will snag it and that's the end of it...
Yes, you may want to reset that router to defaults and try again.
You should get (most likely) something like 192.168.?.0/24
