migrating mapser

Need some help. I have a mapserver setup that resided on a windows box 
for several years all working as weel as could be expected under 
windows. I have recently moved it to a Slackware 12 box (without X) and 
have made all of the necessary changes to the various paths, set owners 
and permissions, etc ,etc, etc. So now all is working great except one 
small detail. I use some truetype fonts as symbols. These worked great 
under windows but not under linux. They reside in a direct that is 
pointed to by a fontset file and while one or 2 of the fonts produced 
the symbols expected most show nothing. The mailing list for Mapserver 
has made some suggestions but to no avail so now I am checking here.

Anyone has any suggestions? Remember this box has no X Server and the 
fonts are not being used by the system.
