There are numerous mac forums out there. A pretty good one I used to
read (and still have in my bookmarks) is the mac cast forums. The
maccast itself is a pretty interesting podcast dubbed "for mac geeks,
by mac geeks." You can find it on maccast.com and the forums are on
forums.maccast.com. I know there are quite a few others, but can't
think of them off the top of my head, Generally a google search for
mac forum should find quite a few, some good, some not so good.

Jon mentioned dragging the folder to the trash bin, if you're a
keyboard guy, you can press shift-backspace and the folder will be
moved into the trash as well.

Textedit comes with the mac by default, in the application folder as
mentioned by Jon. I don't care for it personally. MacVim is a really
good editor (if you enjoy vim). Another good free editor that I've got
on my macbook is Smultron.

Jon mentioned why this isn't "by default." I've found though that
handbrake is a pretty good tool for getting a dvd onto your hard drive
for watching.

I don't think there's a permanent delte option inside the mac gui. For
that you'll have to almost always keep a terminal window open and
delte the files from the command line since there is no easy undelete
option there (just like deleting files from the command line in
Linux).
