printer problems...repost

That command doesn't show a device. It returns two kernel drivers:

[holtzm at localhost]~$ locate usblp
/lib/modules/2.6.24-19-generic/kernel/drivers/usb/class/usblp.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.24-21-generic/kernel/drivers/usb/class/usblp.ko

Is that what you meant? Doesn't look like it.

Other than the bitching about the printer not being connected we have

/var/log/messages (in Ubuntu) mostly contains a lot of unintellible (at 
least to me) entries pertaining to, I think,internet traffic. Never have
been able to decipher it. I can't see anything I can tie to printing or usb.

Just that the printer is detected as I said in a previous post. A 
possible problem is that I may be missing something inthe logs because
I'm not sure (read "don't have a clue") what a lot of 
the entries mean.
