It's actually a feature in some social network sites.   Some sites ask
for the login/password of your existing email account so they can go
through your address book and cross reference it with its subscriber
base.  They match you up with people already subscribed and spam
anyone who isn't.   There are more than enough exceptionally stupid
people out there who will gladly hand out their login/password to
anyone who asks.
