it was on topic in terms of the intent being that it was an independent
validation (or as a corollary) to the notion that like a CS degree
doesn't necessarily prove suitability for the job.

as for off-topic/on-topic inflammatory statements that tend to generate
long off topic discussions...

You get my point - if you had merely laughed and let my comment pass, we
clearly would have had 5-10 less discussions on this topic.
