Gentoo Font issue

For all those at the Tempe stammtisch who were around for the supposed
"Gentoo causing a font problem in the terminal
so -- ‘!=’ token would be seen as a^[][]!=a^[]
it was very strange. It has been fixed thanks to a few people and a
little digging around
I changed LC_TYPE to be something like iso-8859-1
everything works. This was not an issue with Gentoo, but instead when I
changed my locale to utf-8.
