If you Change to su with no options, it leaves you with most of the
environment variables you had as the user.  Specifically, /sbin is probably
not in your PATH.

I seem to remember typing "su -" instead of just "su" in these situations, to
cause the new shell to have a more "normal" environment for the root user,
but the man page for su on this systems doesn't show that option, so it may
not be the best way to do it.
