If it's an actual socket, like the expansion memory socket, then's it's no
problem. One of my thinkpads is the same way - one socket on the bottom of
the machine, one socket underneath the keyboard. Both have been swapped out
to 512MB chips. As for the hard drive, it's really common for 4200RPM
drives to be installed in laptops, as they are more efficient than 7200RPM
drives, meaning longer run time on battery.
