To make sure it works.....

Okay, then if programs aren't dependant on the file manager why is it that 
when I tried to apt-get install a program  it updated KDE?
(if I remember what happened correctly)
Here is what happened, I did anuprade and broke everything. I then reinstalled 
and tried installing needed individual programs but whenever I did that apt 
updated a bunch of other stuff (dependencies) which broke the system again.
