KeyBoard Funkiness

Laptop : Toshiba Satellite
xubuntu 6.??



Works everywhere but VI

When in VI if I press the 
up arrow key it inserts an A
left arrow key it inserts a D
down inserts a B
right a C


/etc/X11/xorg.conf lists:

Generic keyboard
driver "kbd"
xkbRulles "pc105"
xkbLayout "us"
xkbOptions "lv3:ralt_switch"

I'm so confused.  Any help much appreciated.
