Samba config not working

Check the firewall settings on the Linux box. 
Likely Applications -> System Settings -> Security Level
If Samba isnt in the trusted services add 139:tcp, 445:tcp  to the Other 
Ports.
Make sure you set the samba server to only allow connections from your 
subnet/etc.
