gimp 2 appraised

Daniel,

If you are a graphics hacker, Gimp is for you. There is an API called
'Script-Fu' that lets gives you open scripting access to the raw data in
Gimp. Photoshop may sell you a similar idea, but I doubt you get as much
programming power( I do consider Adobe to be a very viable company though
). If I was doing a lot of automated photo processing I would use Gimp
hands down.

I find the big problem in selling OSS to the PHBs is lack of glossy
advertising materials, which is the primary basis for most decision making
for middle management( that, and golf ). The essential problem is an
economic one, I could develop those materials, but I would not see a return
on this development unless I rebranded the OSS platfrom. I suppose I could
just develop it to pitch in, and I have done this before, but if there is no
clear economic incentive there will be no massive changes.
