OT: tru64 issue (solved)

It seems that Tru64 does keep a hashed version of the passwd file for 
performance reasons.  man passwd didnt reveal it, but, man vipw did.  What 
I was looking for was 'mkpasswd'.

Thanks to all who responded that pointed me in the right directions.
