thus it would appear that to generate a new sendmail.cf after
editing /usr/share/sendmail/cf/sendmail.mc would be...
m4 /usr/share/sendmail/cf/sendmail.mc > /etc/sendmail.cf
but good idea to backup sendmail.cf first...
