Alan, actually I think that WOULD work since Dansguardian just needs to know
what IP and TCP port to forward the request to (for example, my is pointed
at localhost 3128 where Squid is listening).  It shouldn't matter if it's
Squid or something else that does the fetching.  Thanks for the pointer!
